Erich Engeln Spitzenstricken Teil 3

Yup I know - the title is a mouthful! But it is such a delicious mouthful you'll want to savor it for a long time!

I found it first on Ravelry via a shop called A Knitted Peace in Colorado - but wasn't happy with the translation and recharting - then I found this one at Lacis.com and at first I was a little put off by the price. But then I got a look at the shawls, and some doilies, and particularly some edgings (always searching out new edgings) and I knew I needed it.

Originally I made Trachtentuch A/Schultertuch A in a handpainted silk merino blend. Wasn't happy - between the price and the stripey bits - well lets just say I learned a valuable lesson.

Then I had a partial cone of ColourMart 3/28 heavy lace weight 100% cashmere (2 cones = 3 shawls - and I've still got enough left over for a scarf) in Persian Blue Mix. I used a size 4 needle (thinking of dropping to a 3) and went to town. Wow - a week of knitting later and now I love this thing! I don't know if I can give it away or if I'm going to hastily knit another "hug" for a friend! So soft, so fluffy, such drape...well enough - you'll just have to knit your own! I will say that there is a line of nupps that I would replace with beads, and the bottom medallions cry out for beads as well but that will have to be on the next one - and there will definitely be a next one!

I was also surprised at the way the front ended up draping - it falls in a ruffle much like the "Potato Chip" scarf! It adds a graceful "aire" to the front. I also crocheted the edging cause I need to keep practicing this cursed skill - and I use the term loosely! Thank-you Brooke and RMS for the little reminder the other day!

Oh wow! Your Engeln Shawl is totally awesome!!! I'm glad to hear it was a fast knit cuz I'll be making mine in June along with several other shawls, so fast is good!!! I've got a cone of ColourMart yarn stashed for my shawl too. I'm taking your bead suggestion into consideration...

Thanks!!!

Deborah, This is beautiful and it inspired me to order the pattern, (It was also nice to get re-acquainted with Lacis - I used to make bobbin lace)but I must admit I am a bit intimidated by the charts. Did you find a good translation of the symbols. Any pointers would be appreciated as I would love to give this a shot. Thanks

Thank you for the link to the booklet. BUT...which one did you order? Is it in chart form or were you able to make out the symbols and words? Thanks for the help. Time to stop admiring this shawl and knit it!
